Gua Sha Tutorial | The benefits of Gua Sha and how to use it

Everyone seems to be talking about gua sha recently, but what exactly is it and what are the benefits? With this Gua Sha tutorial, we’ll cover everything you need to know.

Pain and tension cannot be compared to this relaxing and rejuvenating neck and face gua sha therapy. In just a few minutes a day, you can relieve muscle tension while promoting cell growth for younger, healthier-looking skin.

In our quest for youthful, healthy skin, we often spend hundreds of dollars on expensive moisturizers, luxurious serums and anti-aging creams. However, one of the easiest and most affordable ways to maintain good skin is gua sha. This facial massage dates back to ancient China and has been used for hundreds of years to stimulate blood circulation and promote the natural drainage of lymph nodes in the body. It uses a small hand-held plate that opens blood vessels in the face and neck, helping to rejuvenate cells and tighten muscles.

Let’s start with the guasha tutorial and say that for the best scraping results, it is recommended to massage yourself twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening). However, if you use it every other day, you will see slow results.

There are many different types of gua sha stones on the market today. However, we believe these are the best materials:

Buffalo Horn: Promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis.

Jade: Relaxes and absorbs body heat, helps soothe inflamed areas.

Rose Quartz: Opens the Heart Chakra, Enhances Self-Love and Compassion

You may also find that Gua Sha boards also come in a variety of shapes. Each has unique features for different areas and skin concerns:

Teardrops: have long, smooth edges and end ridges. It can easily be used on the face or shoulders, arms, and even legs.

Heart: Has a deeper ridge that adds extra pressure to areas like your chin and forehead. It can also be used to relieve tension in the hands.

Wave: There are several different ridge areas that can be used to provide different levels of pressure.

Gua Sha Massage – Neck

To get the most out of this guasha tutorial, make sure your face has been washed and dried recently. Feel free to prep your skin with your usual moisturiser or serum in your skincare routine.

We will start the Gua Sha tutorial on your upper back and shoulders. Take the scraping board and place the arched side on the 45° angle of the neck towards the ear. Using light pressure on your skin, move the plank down from your neck to your shoulders. You can repeat this action multiple times.

Now take the edge of the gua sha and place it on the back of the neck along the spine. Move the plate up to the bottom of the scalp. This is a sensitive spot, so apply gentle pressure, although you can always press harder if you need more pressure relief.

Put the board on top of your shoulders. Move it up toward your ear, using the ridged part to wiggle a little at the end to add pressure.

Let’s continue massaging the front side of the neck. Place the scraper near the collarbone and roll up to the chin. Repeat this movement on the sides of your neck.

Next, we will use a scraping pad on the face to stimulate cell growth. Place the ridged edge on your chin and move in circles for a few seconds.

Now, place your fingers at this point on the chin and move the plank outward along the edge of the chin toward the ears. Repeat this upward motion for a few seconds, then switch sides and slide the skateboard along your other jawline.

We can massage the cheeks by placing the plate ridge next to the nose. Gently press your fingers on the other side of your nose, then slide the board under your eyes and up toward your temples. Repeat on the other side.

The last exercise is for your forehead. Place your fingers between your eyebrows and place the gua sha ridge on one eyebrow. Now move the scraping pad towards your temple and bend the scraping along your forehead.

You can also massage from the center of the eyebrows up to the hairline to cover the entire forehead.

While this type of guasha won’t solve all your skin problems, it’s a relaxing way to promote cell turnover and blood flow, while also relieving muscle tension in your face, neck, or shoulders. It only takes a few minutes a day, so there’s no reason why you shouldn’t start working towards younger, healthier looking skin!
